First Impression: Well Dad has been feeding me Sold Gold - Wolf Pup for about 5 months now. I must say that it’s the best dry dog food I’ve ever had. I get two cups in the morning and two cups at night. Dad puts a drizzle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil on top of it and man I just start salivating right there. Of course I have to wait patiently while dad finishes, but once he says it’s ok to have breakfast/dinner I’m on it faster than if I was chasing a squirrel that just ran by. Even after the bowl is empty I still can lick up some EVOO.

Ingredients: Bison, Salmon Meal, Brown Rice, Cracked Pearled Barley, Rice Bran, Canola Oil, Flaxseed Oil, Garlic, Amaranth, Blueberries, Yucca Schidegera Extract, Taurine, Carotene, Choline Chloride, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Proteinate, (a chelated source of iron), Zinc Proteinate (a chelated source of zinc), Copper Proteinate (a chelated source of copper), Manganese Proteinate (a chelated source of manganese), Potassium Iodide, Thiamine Mononitrate, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Supplement, Biotin, Calcium Pantothenate, Sodium Selenite, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (vitamin B6), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin, Vitamin D Supplement, Folic Acid.

To find a store in your area.

Conclusion: Wonderful! Bag is vacuum sealed for freshness; it should be hard as a brick. I sure wish I could become a Solid Gold mascot or spokesperson. If your interested Sold Gold, contact me!

First Impression: The kind folks over at Natural Balance sent me 4 samples of their dry food: Ultra Premium, Potato & Duck Formula, Venison & Brown Rice Formula, and the Sweet Potato & Fish Formula. Normally dad does not like to feed me other types of dry kibble because as a rule it can be shock for puppy’s systems (upset stomachs). But after reading more about the food he decided to see if I liked it. We started off with the (blue) Ultra Premium which basically has all kinds of wonderful ingredients like chicken, duck, and lamb meal. I’m thinking about switching my diet over to this one, no more Pro Plan Selects! I then tried all of the others, which were quite wonderful. Honestly I have no complaints about the food. Dad didn’t even have to put yogurt on my breakfast! Usually I’m quite picky in the morning.

Conclusion: Natural Balance knows what they are doing. I’m talking Dad into switching me over to 100% Natural Balance Ultra Premium (blue package).

Conclusion: It only has duck and water in the can. Thats pretty darn healthy! Plus I loved how great it tasted. Dad just put it on some of my dry kibble, and man I went to town! Dad said I sounded like a hog rooting for truffles… Whatever those are…

First Impression: Well when Dad opened the can I was VERY excited. I thought it smelled great, even though Dad wasn’t so sure… After dad poured it into my bowl he noticed there were TONS of bone chunks. After he saw that most were 1/4 inch in diameter he wouldn’t let me eat it. Dad was afraid that it could cause a blockage, or tear passing through my “system.” Dad dug though part of it and grabbed a few chunks. I would guess that he got about 1/4 of them. High Res Example. & Low Res Example.

Conclusion: If this was a “one time” manufacturing problem, then I guess I would try it again. If this is how it’s supposed to be, I would steer clear because your puppy’s health is VERY important. One paw because I liked how it smelled, but couldn’t eat it.

Followup: Mom spoke with Jeff Baker over at Canine Caviar and he said there definitely should NOT be bones. Mom gave him the lot number that was on the can and Jeff said that he was going to have cans opened all over the country to see if this was an isolated incident, or if it had affected the entire batch. I sure am glad Canine Caviar is taking it serious. I really would have eaten it, if Dad would have let me…

Right now my hips are fine, but I’m a young pup at a mere 13 months. I’m sure as time progresses I’ll run into some sore joints, just like all large breed dogs do. So I’m happy to know that there is something out there that can help, and tastes as good as this!

Conclusion: Tastes great, no animal bi-products, resealable bag, and it tastes like PB!

First Impression: I love it when Dad puts a tablespoon or two of yogurt on my Purina Pro Plan Selects. It’s best when he puts the yogurt on my food and then licks the spoon to show me that the yogurt is good. Some people think that natural yogurt with live cultures helps with Rottweiler farts. But it sure hasn’t done much for me…

Conclusion: Dad says that natural fat free yogurt with live cultures is healthier than those fake “gravy” options that some dogs like. Dad also says it’s VERY cost effective. If your parents like you to eat right away, tell them to try some yogurt on your meal! (flavored or plain) Just make sure your parents know, it probably won’t help with any puppy flatulence. Three out of four Paws because it didn’t help me with my toots.

First Impression: Who needs expensive dog food storage containers? Dad found Roughneck Storage Boxes at a home improvement store. One container holds just over one bag of dog food. And I can’t get into the container because I don’t have any thumbs.

Conclusion: Dad says that the extra $40+ he saved on this container went to more toys! Sounds like I’m training him well… 3 out of 4 Paws because if Dad didn’t keep the food container in the closet, I could probably get into it.

First Impression: Natural Balance Dog Food Rolls are like puppy crack. Dad buys the roll and cuts it up into finger sized pieces. Then he uses his Food Saver to vacuum seal the left over pieces of the roll. When Dad trains me, he uses pieces of the roll as treats. He keeps them in a ziploc bag in his pocket when we go on walks. I didn’t like the Turkey flavor as much; they were drier and less tasty. I would recommend the Natural Balance Dog Food Roll Lamb Formula to any Rottweiler, but I won’t share mine.

Conclusion: Absolutely the best training treat I’ve ever had! Liver treats are good, but they can be too rich and upset my stomach. Plus dad says these are WAY cheaper than the liver treats.

First Impression: Even though I’m over a year old, I still love my Purina Pro Plan Selects for Puppies. The formula starts with real turkey meat. I eat 3 cups in the morning and 3 cups for dinner. Sometimes I don’t want to eat my morning meal, so dad puts yogurt on top of it. Everywhere I go people comment on how gorgeous I am and what a pretty coat I have. Purina Pro Plan Selects gives Rottweilers a great coat.

Conclusion: I really like my Purina Pro Plan Selects. Most parents don’t spend the time to research the ingredients in their puppies food. If the first ingredient isn’t real unprocessed meat, you shouldn’t be eating it. Also if it contains any animal byproducts you shouldn’t be eating it. Tell your parents! 3 out of 4 Paws because sometimes dad has to put yogurt on it for me to want to eat.
