Slides at school…
December 30, 2006 1:49 pm- First Impression: Well after I got done with my solo tetherball match, I decided I should play on the human kids playground. First I started with the straight slide. It was pretty fun and I went down it a few times. Then I tried the spiral slide. Never ever ever try the spiral slide. Let me tell all you puppies that I took one for the team on that one.
- Conclusion: Straight slides are fun! Spiral slides suck!

Tetherball at school…
1:41 pm- First Impression: I LOVE tetherball, but I need a strong human setup to play. The tetherballs for dogs just don’t hold up under my weight. Mom and Dad bought me a Baden tetherball. Dad picked one out that was rubbery and tough! Then he pumped it up about 2psi more than what is recommended so I can’t compress it to puncture it.
- Conclusion: If you like sports like me, tetherball is a great way to blow some energy. Just have your parents take you to a school, or better yet have them cement your own pole in the backyard. As soon as my Dad latches the rope on, I go crazy. As you can see from my pictures, I fly though the air, sometimes swinging from the rope. That’s no easy feat for a 120+ lb puppy!

Petco - Holiday Moose
12:10 pm- First Impression: My Grandmother bought me this for Christmas… It had the standard small squeaker, and stretchy legs that made a crunchy noise. I ripped the legs off within an hour of light play. Then Dad stitched up the leg sockets that had stuffing coming out. I quickly tore the neck so I could pull out more stuffing. Dad finally took the toy away and trashed it.
- Conclusion: Save your money and put it towards a real toy. 1 out of 4 Paws because it was entertaining to destroy so quickly.

Tuffie’s - Tuffzilla (Tuff Scale)
December 23, 2006 2:12 pm- First Impression: I love this new toy Mom and Dad bought me at Best Pet! It is as tall as I am, soft(ish), and seems very durable. It also has some little squeakers built into the spines. I just got the toy about an hour ago, so I’ll post more after I’ve had some time to play with it.
- Follow up: Well I’ve had a little over a day to thoroughly play with TuffZilla and I must say it is built very well. I’ve started to split the seams on the nose and feet slightly, but Dad keeps burning the threads back to make sure I don’t have an unfair advantage. Dad plans on performing surgery with heavy thread or fishing line as necessary to prolong the life of my new friend Tuffzilla. I think there should be some more squeakers though; they are pretty hard to find most the time. Also, when I start swinging Tuffzilla around and hit people with it, they seem to think it hurts. Tuffzilla is very dense and the seams are very rigid.
- Follow up #2: I tore the stitching out of the groin and pulled a few good mouthfuls of cotton stuffing out. Dad took my toy away and stitched it back up with some fishing line. The groin seems to be holding. I then shredded 3 teeth, and a few of Tuffzilla’s claws. Dad had to cut the back with scissors so I wouldn’t eat them. String constantly gets unraveled so Dad keeps burning it back. Since the toy is so expensive dad keeps trying to make it last. I think with a few more play sessions I can ruin it good enough that he will give up. Wish me luck!
- Conclusion: The product has a high price tag but is built well and I love having a toy thats more “my size.” If you can talk your parents into a TuffZilla I’d recommend it!

Heartgard Plus
December 20, 2006 3:05 pm- First Impression: I’m a very active dog, who loves to play with other dogs (and eat things Dad would rather I didn’t). So Dad makes sure to give me a Heartgard every month to keep me healthy. Heartgard Plus prevents heartworm disease plus treats and controls ascarids (roundworms) and hookworm infestations.
- Conclusion: Month after month I still love the taste of my Heartgard Plus. It’s never a problem for me to chomp it right down, and I know it’s helping to keep me healthy!

Advantix - Blue - Over 55 Lbs
3:01 pm- First Impression: I don’t really like having to sit still while Mom and Dad put the Advantix on me, but it really helps with the scratching. Dad thinks is a little messy to apply, but it works great. I’ve never had fleas (since I was rescued). Since I have such dense course hair, Dad parts a section of my hair, then Mom squeezes the Advantix on. It didn’t work very well when Dad had to do it by himself. Advantix kills 98-100% of fleas on dogs within 12 hours and continues protecting for at least 4 weeks. Advantix also repels and kills a majority of ticks and mosquitoes! Advantix is highly recommended for active dogs who get out and live life!
- Conclusion: Overall Dad says it’s worth the money! If you purchase Advantix in 6 month blocks, you can save quite a bit. Besides how can you put a price on a happy puppy? The reason it’s not “4 Paws” is because of the application hassle.

Lixit - Dog Waterer
December 19, 2006 9:31 pm- First Impression: At first I didn’t know what Dad wanted me to do with the Lixit Dog Waterer. But after Dad showed me a couple times, I caught on very quickly. The instructions say you can put peanut butter on the lever, but Dad just pushed it with his finger. Also, he showed me that I can press my nose on the Lixit to make water come out. Fascinating!
- Conclusion: Dad says it’s well worth the money! He never has to worry about a water bowl outside. When I play outside and get thirsty, I use the Dog Waterer. I lick it and it gives me fresh water. It hasn’t leaked so far. I now think that Mom’s bath faucet will turn on if I lick it for long enough. The Dog Waterer was very inexpensive and is recommended for all outdoor dogs, or even dogs that just go outside when they have to (like me).

Air Kong Squeaker Fetch Stick
12:34 pm- First Impression: Kong makes the Air Kong Squeaker Fetch Stick. It isn’t able to be stuffed with treats like other Kongs. Instead it’s a stick-like toy made out of tennis ball material. I love the sound of this squeaker! Mom and Dad think it’s pretty high pitched, but I’m thrilled about it. I run around the house squeeking it at Mom and Dad like I’m talking to them. I chewed on the toy so much that within a week, I pulled the small squeaker out of the end. There is an 1/8in hole at the end of the toy and it no longer squeaks. I pretty much ignore the toy now. I wish Kong would make this squeaker more durable.
- Conclusion: The product didn’t last more than seven days, so if you’re an aggressive chewer like me you should probably think twice. Dad said he would give it one more shot since I liked it so much. I’ll let you all know if I ever get to review a second one.

Natural yogurt (with live cultures)
10:54 am- First Impression: I love it when Dad puts a tablespoon or two of yogurt on my Purina Pro Plan Selects. It’s best when he puts the yogurt on my food and then licks the spoon to show me that the yogurt is good. Some people think that natural yogurt with live cultures helps with Rottweiler farts. But it sure hasn’t done much for me…
- Conclusion: Dad says that natural fat free yogurt with live cultures is healthier than those fake “gravy” options that some dogs like. Dad also says it’s VERY cost effective. If your parents like you to eat right away, tell them to try some yogurt on your meal! (flavored or plain) Just make sure your parents know, it probably won’t help with any puppy flatulence. Three out of four Paws because it didn’t help me with my toots.

Woolite Pet Stain Remover
10:54 am- First Impression: During my first two weeks with Mom and Dad I was confused about when and where to go to the bathroom, so there were a few accidents. Woolite Pet Stain Remover got rid of the stain and odor, and kept me from smelling or using the same spot again.
- Conclusion: Overall the product works very well. No carpet discoloration, but Dad was always quick to clean up the accident scene. So far it has been very effective on urine, feces, and even vomit… I learned very quickly though, Dad hasn’t had to clean the carpet in quite awhile. Now, if I’m not feeling well, I just let myself out though the doggy door. But for those of you who still have accidents, tell your parents to keep a bottle of Woolite Pet Stain Remover under the sink. Four out of four Paws because I can’t think of anything it could do better!

Cargo Liner Tray Mat
10:53 am- First Impression: Mom and Dad have a small hatchback car. They would put me in the far back area and I would slide around on the hard plastic floor. Dad found a cargo liner tray mat specifically designed for our car. I don’t slide around as much now, and it’s easy for Dad to clean out the sand/dirt/hair from the back of the car. He can just pick up the entire mat and pull it out of the car, shake it off, and he’s done.
- Conclusion: If your having problems with traction in the rear of your parents’ vehicle, a cargo liner may be the perfect solution. Dad bought mine on ebay from GetItCovered, but they are all about the same. Just make sure it’s for your specific vehicle, or you could be sliding around on the mat.

Patio Pet Door - Quick Panel III
10:51 am- First Impression: Dad found me a great dog door. The Patio Pet Door Quick Panel fits into a sliding glass door. There is no permanent installation, so it’s great for puppy parents who do not own their homes. Dad assembled the door himself and I fit through the dog door easily. It has a panel that can be slid into the dog door to lock me outside when I need a “time out” or lock me inside when Dad’s working in the backyard. Patio Pet Door Quick Panels are recommended for Rottweilers who live in rented homes. To save a little on shipping you may want to shop around online. Dad found a company that sold the door for the same price as the manufacturer but had free shipping. The door was still drop shipped directly from the manufacturer so it was no different, other than saving $40.
The door did not make a great seal, so Dad went to a home improvement store and bought some extra adhesive weather stripping. He doubled up the strips on either side of the Patio Pacific panel so it makes a weather proof seal. The Quick Panel III is only a single pane of glass so if you live in a very cold area you may want to look at Patio Pacific’s double pane products.
- Conclusion: In the long run Dad thinks the Patio Pet door was well worth the money. It was a fairly steep investment, but he never has to worry about letting me outside. Plus I’ve learned to even let myself outside when I’m not feeling well. So there are absolutely no mistakes inside! Dad loves that! 3.5 out of 4 Paws just because of the price.

Clicker
10:51 am- First Impression: Dad used the Clicker to help train me to be a good dog. Clickers are very cheap and very effective. Recommended for Rottweilers with owners who are trying to train their dogs.
- Conclusion: It may seem like a gimmick at first, but after a while you realize what your parents are doing… The “click” basically means “good dog, you’ll get a treat soon”. So once you figure that out, it’s easy money.

Roughneck Storage Box
10:50 am- First Impression: Who needs expensive dog food storage containers? Dad found Roughneck Storage Boxes at a home improvement store. One container holds just over one bag of dog food. And I can’t get into the container because I don’t have any thumbs.
- Conclusion: Dad says that the extra $40+ he saved on this container went to more toys! Sounds like I’m training him well… 3 out of 4 Paws because if Dad didn’t keep the food container in the closet, I could probably get into it.

Chuckit Ball Launcher
10:50 am- First Impression: Someone gave me the Chuckit Ball Launcher as a gift. It seems to be for lazy humans. Fetch is not my favorite game, so we don’t use this toy very often. However even Mom can make the ball go pretty far with the device. For the most part I just look at her like “Why did you throw the ball way over there?” then she goes and gets it for me. Don’t get me wrong I like to chew on the ball… But why should I retrieve it? I’m not a retriever!
- Conclusion: If you like to fetch, this is a great device for your parents to buy. They will be able to throw the ball farther, and they won’t wear out as quickly. Plus if they are “old” they don’t even have to bend over to pickup the ball! They can use the Launcher as a handle and press the cup onto the ball. Nifty. 3 out of 4 stars because Rottie’s are not big on fetch.
